KEYNOTE SPEAKER

TCDL 2017 will feature Mike Casey.

Mike Casey is the Director of Technical Operations for Indiana University's Media Digitization and Preservation Initiative which has digitally preserved more than 150,000 audio and video recordings as of this writing. He is the co-author of Sound Directions: Best Practices for Audio Preservation, a contributing author to the second edition of the best practices publication Guidelines on the Production and Preservation of Digital Audio Objects (known as IASA-TC 04), a contributing author to IASA-TC 05 Handling and Storage of Audio and Video Carriers, the creator of FACET: The Field Audio Collection Evaluation Tool and the co-creator of the media prioritization software applications MediaSCORE and MediaRIVERS. He also authored the Indiana University Media Preservation Survey report and is principal author for the follow-up publication Meeting the Challenge of Media Preservation: Strategies and Solutions. His article entitled Why Media Preservation Can't Wait: The Gathering Storm that explores media degradation and obsolescence was published in the IASA Journal in January 2015.

The TCDL Planning Committee has opened the 2017 Call for Proposals. We invite your submissions of presentations and panels, 24x7 sessions, workshops, birds-of-a-feathers, and posters. This is your opportunity to be part of the program.

TCDL addresses a wide range of topics including creation, promotion, preservation, and management of digital projects and assets, as well as the software and applications that drive the digital library world. Through a blend of interactive presentations, engaging speakers, and informative workshops, TCDL will be a great place to network and experience the latest in all things digital.

ABOUT TCDL

The Texas Conference on Digital Libraries covers topics relevant to the creation, promotion, and preservation of research, scholarship, and cultural heritage digital materials.

The goal of TCDL is to bring together those working on digital projects -- including outreach librarians, repository managers, catalogers, faculty members, technical staff, and others -- in order to build a practical, usable, and sustainable model for digital libraries.

TCDL 2017 will take place at the Commons Learning Center (CLC) on the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in Austin, Texas on May 23-25, 2017. The CLC is within walking distance of the Texas Advanced Computing Center and near the pedestrian-friendly Domain Austin, featuring more than 100 stores, restaurants, and hotels. More information about conference programming including conference sessions, presentations, poster sessions, and workshops will be coming soon.
