Spotlight, an open source project maintained by Stanford University, provides a self-service approach to developing online exhibitions for digital collections.  An extension of the Blacklight discovery platform, Spotlight offers a robust interface for searching, browsing and researching digital assets and collections. Designed as a content management system, Spotlight empowers exhibition authors with a complete set of page widgets ranging from text formatting to image management, including support for video segments.  A growing and engaged user community is contributing to the Spotlight development effort by providing additional page widgets and image viewers.  Spotlight has a strong image management and manipulation framework built on the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF), which opens up the platform to rich image metadata, including compound images.

The Texas A&M University Libraries is developing a comprehensive digital asset management ecosystem (DAME) with Spotlight as the platform for building fully featured online exhibits.  This presentation will cover the role Spotlight plays in the ecosystem and how it will interact with digital repositories and other components in the DAME.  Using the Spotlight CMS, it only takes a few steps to develop a simple exhibit complete with photos, maps, and other images.  Descriptive text and copy can integrate with other digital media to produce captivating online exhibits.  This presentation will include a demonstration of a finished exhibit highlighting navigation, searching and viewing of images.  The metadata model used in Spotlight will be covered along with how this metadata can support searches and displaying assets. An update on the current development status of Spotlight as well as a review of the user community support for the platform for conclude the presentation.
