Abstract

A topic of discussion for well over a decade in the ETD community-in the Graduate School and the Library as well as among the graduate students and their faculty-has been how publishers view theses and dissertations that are readily available on the Internet and, in particular, whether open access to ETDs hinders future publishing opportunities. This presentation reports on the 2011 results of the survey of journal editors' and university press directors' attitudes toward online theses and dissertations, attitudes that indicate support for open access. This information is of significance to the Texas ETD conference
audience, as it will help them make informed decisions about open access to ETDs and what the implications are for publication based on ETDs.
